- I am pleased to report that Aquinas College of Newton, MA, has opened
- its new Computers in Telecommunications Lab, assembled from entirely
- from equipment and software donated by DEC and other supporters.
-
- The Lab includes a uVAX II/GPX running DECnet-Ultrix 4.2, 20 VAXmates
- running DOS 3.1 with DECnet, 12 PROs running P/OS 3.2 with DECnet, and
- 4 PROs running VENIX. Thinwire Ethernet interconnects the VAXmates and
- 4 of the PROs to the uVAX.
-
- I would like to express my appreciation to the many experts on this
- NewsGroup who helped out with hardware, software, and technical
- advice during the construction of this Lab.
-
- The Lab represents a computing resource worth about $50,000 had
- it been purchased new about 5 years ago. The total out-of-pocket
- expense to Aquinas College came to $38.
-
- The Lab will be used to introduce incoming Aquinas students to
- computer fundamentals, preparing them to go on to careers in
- business where familiarity with computers and computer networking
- is an essential skill.
