- In repairing my C64 recently, I replaced CIA 1 (originally a 6526) with
- a 6526A (because that was what was available). In all respects, the
- replacement chip worked just fine; that is until I tried to load the old
- faithful word processor "Paperback Writer (Version 1.20)", at which point
- the disk drive just sort of acts dumb and doesn't load anything. I tried
- swapping in another C64 which did not have the replacement chip and it worked
- fine, as did the original C64 before the 6526 died. Any clues what makes a
- 6526A sufficiently different from a 6526 that this program won't load?
- More to the point, does anyone have an unprotected "Paperback Writer" that
- he/she would be willing to copy for a registered owner of the program (me)?
- I plan to contact Digital Solutions, but suspect that they will not be able
- to duplicate the problem because they are several revisions removed from the
- version I have, and may not even know what a 6526A is.
- Thanks,
- Frank Prindle
