- Sorry for the confusion. The software to which I am referring was
- certainly not developed here at cooper.edu! Unix System Labs (USL)
- puts out source code products which are given to OEMs, and VARs.
- These sites take the source, add some much-needed stuff, print up
- manuals, and sell the binaries. For example, unless I am off the mark
- here, the SVR4.0 which NCR will sell you for your 3B2/1000R is essentially
- USL SVR4.0 source, with some mods made by NCR to make it work on
- that hardware.
-
- Now, USL sells a source code product SVR4.1ES which will run on
- 3B2s (with the original WE processor, not the RISC stuff). Since
- we are a university, we were able to license this at a reasonable
- fee (I think $6000). USL charges a very high fee (>$25K) for
- commercial licenses. So, unless your a university, you probably
- can't get this product (unless you have money to burn).
-
- What I am urging here is that ATT/NCR be kind enough as to
- release the binary-only version for WE 3B2s.
