- I have a vintage 1040st which has been a faithful friend for
- many years. A few days ago, when I turned it on I noticed
- that the floppy sounded strange. The system was obviously
- not booting up either.
-
- To my dismay, I discovered that the spindle of the floppy
- drive was no longer turning. The head positioning motor
- was working ok, and the drive light was on, but no spin.
-
- All drive cables are connected firmly and seem ok.
- Rotating the spindle manually turned it (not stuck)
- but did not seem to have any helpful effect.
-
- The system boots up fine from the external HD.
-
- Am I looking at a bad drive? A bad controller? A bad PS?
- Or some other bad dream?
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Brian
