- When comparing .ZOO, take into mind that the MAJORITY of users will be
- using GEM, and not UNIX. Using ZOO v2.1 from UN*X will let you
- re-direct. From versions of GEM prior to 2.05, this is not possible
- with ZOO 2.1. TOS 2.5 and above allow for output re-direction to
- whatever window is currently selected, which means, you can make
- programs automatically put files where YOU want them. (Teradesk, and
- I imagine some other replacement desktops also have this feature!)
-
- .ZOO is a LOT slower than LHarc, (in 'high compression' mode) - and
- fails to get as good compression. (The difference is so small it
- hardly matters) but speed is a real problem!
-
- If ZOO had a redirection (which it thinks it does, but doesn't work on
- GEM versions<2.05). e.g.
-
- ZOO.TTP extract C:\ZOOFILE.ZOO F:\TEMP\
-
-
- [Extract command | .ZOO filename | output path/filename(s))
-
- LHarc has this, and will also create an output directory for you if
- none by the specified name exists (with a prompt if so desired).
-
-
- Personally, I'd rather use LZH, as I really hate waiting for things to
- compress. Uploading is a favour in most circumstances. Why trouble
- yourself with waiting longer, on top of the uploading time!? And
- then, if you can re-direct, copying files around!
-
-
- On a certain BBS over here, I've uploaded over a hundred more files
- than I need to be able to download anything (And, I've got unlimited
- ratio anyway!)
