  19. If you want to go "back" in technology :-), I regularly exchange files
  20. between GEM 1st Word Plus on the PC and 1st Word (the original bundled
  21. package) on the ST.  Some things (like footnotes) don't exchange but
  22. I stongly suspect that upgrading to 1st Word Plus on the ST would fix
  23. most (if not all) of the remaining items.

  25. Also (although you didn't ask), I have exchanged metafiles between GEM
  26. Draw on the PC and Easy-Draw on the ST, with few problems.  The major
  27. discrepancy is in the font handling (for text) - sometimes works fine,
  28. othertimes doesn't.

  30. Finally, I use the DR DOS 6.0 ViewMax shell on the PC controlling
  31. TaskMax (task switcher). Since I have a 25 MHz 4 Mb 386DX, I load the
  32. GEM/3 desktop twice, run 1st Word Plus on one and Output on the second
  33. one - shorter time to print that way.

  35. This setup is fairly high on the compatibility scale but shows its "age"
  36. in the feature & technology arena.  But I like the environment, becuse it
  37. lets me use my ST more than otherwise.  And I really prefer to work on
  38. the ST.
