- If you replaced the number "286" in the above paragraph with
- "8088/8086", then you would be correct. Windows 3.1 will run on a
- 286, but not on an 8086 or below (it requires protected mode). If you
- have a 386, then I believe 3.1 will load a separate kernel that has
- some 32-bit code in it and other enhancements.
