-
- A IIgs "New Desk Accessory" is exactly the same in concept as the
- Macintosh's "Desk Accessory", i.e. a small program that is available
- under the "Apple" menu in any desktop application. It usually has a
- single window, and shares execution time with the main application and
- other NDAs.
-
- A "Classic Desk Accessory" is usually a text-based program that takes
- control of the computer until you stop using it. An example of a CDA
- is the Text "Control Panel" built into the ROM on the IIgs (not to be
- confused with the NDA "Control Panel" which is available in System 5
- and later).
- Classic Desk Accesories are accessed by pressing Control-Apple-Escape
- and choosing the desired one from a menu.
-
-
- The term "Classic" is based on the traditional idea of desk
- accessories as a small program you call up while in another program,
- which takes control until you've finished with it. Most MS-DOS "TSR"
- (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs are "classic" desk accessories.
- Borland's "SideKick" is a good example.
