- If your friend has the right software, the best way is to use the
- Claris XTND technology. Certain applications (MacWrite II and
- ClarisWorks being the relevant ones) have access to translation
- filters written by Claris. There are filters available for both
- AppleWorks 2.x and AppleWorks 3.0, as well as AppleWorks GS 1.1. If
- your friend isn't using MacWrite II, he might consider getting it. I
- find it is much more pleasant to use than MS Word.
-
- Another alternative is to find the Works-to-Works package for
- Apple File Exchange. It contains filters for converting between
- AppleWorks 2.x and Microsoft Works formats (don't know if they've
- upgraded to AW 3.0). Not nearly as slick as using Claris XTND's, but
- it gets the job done.
-
- Check out the ProDOS File System Manager (FSM) on the Mac as well.
- This init file lets the Mac read ProDOS disks directly (although it
- won't do any file translation on its own). You can skip the AFE step
- when reading your //c files, but files created by the Mac (even plain
- ASCII files) won't be readable on the //c. For some reason the ProDOS
- FSM always makes forked files which are unreadable under ProDOS 8.
