-
- Which modem port driver?
-
- I know of two:
-
- - The MODEM driver in */SYSTEM/DRIVERS, which is a Print Manager port
- driver. Port drivers are documented in IIgs technical note #36 (Port
- Driver Specifications). I think there is another technote related to
- this, but I can't locate it.
-
- - The serial port firmware (in slot 2), which can be accessed from
- GS/OS by using the Text Tools, or through the driver that GS/OS
- generates for the modem port (the latter is preferable).
-
- I don't think that either of these can keep up with I/O at 9600 baud
- or higher. At some stage in the last couple of years, Apple should
- have written a REAL GS/OS modem port driver, which would provide fast
- access to the serial ports from native mode, but this hasn't happened
- (_yet_, he says hopefully).
-
- See also Apple II Miscellaneous Tech Note #14 (Guidelines for
- Telecommunications Programs). This says that you should be using the
- GS/OS driver unless you REALLY need to go faster.
