- I have a Maxtor 384meg drive that died a slow death. Initially the
- problem was heat related, because it would work for a short while if
- the machine was powered off for a day (Ohh..Apollo 3500..) and turned
- back on. The Apollo system error said DISK TIMEOUT and you could hear
- the disk had stopped spinning. Now the drive stops spinning within
- minutes of powering up.

- I'd like to know if any repair outfit could fix the drive and preserve
- the data - assuming the type of failure was unrelated to the integrity of
- the data storage.

- I have backups of the important files, but the disk has a lot of good
- stuff I picked up over time and it would nice to get it back if the cost
- of doing so is not too high.
