  11. I suggest the following book:
  12. Mark Nelson - The data compression book
  13. M&T Books 1991
  14. I have found this book referred on usenet, and bought it; it is
  15. a very clear, exaustive book about compression, about 600 pages
  16. full of code. It comes with floppies containing the source code;
  17. the book is PC oriented, but the code is ANSI C and I did not
  18. have problems porting the code to Unix-Amiga-Vax. I don't have
  19. the book here, so I cannot quote the ISBN or the price; but I
  20. liked it very much. It covers Huffmann coding of various flavors,
  21. Lempel-Ziv coding of various flavors, data lossing compression
  22. (jpeg) and a lot of others things.
