- This same Merrill Callaway is also responsible for reams of reviews
- in the "regular" flavor of Amazing Computing. He (s/he) recently
- reviewed ASDG's Epson or JX100 scanner driver software and whined about
- getting scans that weren't correctly proportioned for an Amiga monitor.
- When I wrote ASDG's scanner driver manual (which recently got five
- stars under the "documentation" rating in the end-boxes in reviews
- in three current Sept. 1992 British Amiga-specific magazines, by the
- way) I spent no small amount of space explaining in detail how to
- scan an area of a piece of art larger in the vertical dimention
- to compensate for the Amiga's non-square pixels versus the scanners'
- square ones, and then how to use ADPro's scaling feature to
- reduce the scan down to the correct size for the proper proportions
- when viewed on NTSC monitors.
-
- Callaway completely missed this important piece of information from
- the manual and thus drew the wrong conclusions at the end of the
- review.
-
- Hey, I write reviews for a living too. I go thru a lot of pre-writing
- work including making lots of phone calls at my own expense to make
- sure I get my facts right before I submit the articles. I call
- software mfrs, get the most knowledgable person they have on the phone,
- and say "These are the technical facts about your program that I"m
- going to use in my article... I'll list them to you one by one. You tell
- me if I'm wrong about any of them."
