  16. That's a pretty awful hack. The files can't be writable or deleteable.
  17. People would yell and scream if those permissions were set. There's no
  18. point in having permission bits if you're just going to ignore them.
  19. The end result is the same as the "hacks" you hate that bypass file
  20. permissions.

  22. People have posted explanations of how to change the permissions of a
  23. copy you make to a writeable device, it works just fine, You don't
  24. have a whole OS for nothing.

  26. There's a more serious problem with read only filesystems under
  27. AmigaOS. Some broken software either tries to write, or actually does,
  28. when there's no need to. The solution to that, is to get your
  29. application s/w fixed or switch to other s/w. If you can't avoid
  30. running s/w that wants to put a write lock on your CD, then you need a
  31. hack. CD-FS by Canadian Prototype Replicas has an option to tell the
  32. driver to fake writes, and really send them to the bit bucket. That
  33. fixes things as cleanly as possible, at the right place to do it, too,
  34. I think.
