- A good practice (that I've followed religiously for years) is:
-
- The computer should be the LAST thing turned ON.
- The computer should be the FIRST thing turned OFF.
-
- This will minimize any spikes on the computer's sensitive chips. I've read
- several ideas on which order the other peripherals should be turned on/off, but
- I'll leave that up to your judgment.
-
- Naturally, turn off all equipment before plugging in (or removing) any cables
- or devices.
-
- Some may say, "I've unplugged several items with the power on, and never
- had any problems!", but why take chances? It only takes minimal effort to
- follow these precautions, and it will probably prevent a trip to the repair
- shop.
-
- My 2" worth.
