- Well, this is the most disappointing aspect of the 4000 for me. I was
- really looking forward to great new graphics and sound. They got 1/2 of it.
- But don't give up all hope! This new machine has got to have at least
- double the DMA bandwidth from how the graphics modes sound, so maybe there's
- room in there (time-wise) for more audio dma. Certainly, to add four
- more audio channels requires no more external pins. It only presents
- itself as a problem when you try to integrate it into the internal register
- map (like interrupt bits, lots of additional registers for control). It
- requires a bit of space on the chips, too. (don't know how much, but I
- suspect it is significant.)
-
- Maybe we'll get better audio yet... But true, it should've been in there.
