  13. Greetings fellow Amiga Users,
  14.     Having had the loan of an Amiga 500 for the Summer I find I like it,
  15. in fact I like it alot ;)
  16. My liking of the Amiga has prompted the decision to buy my own - the problem
  17. is which model? A few weeks ago I would have been happy with an A500 with
  18. a hard-disk (which could take memory expansion chips) - but now I am not so
  19. sure.
  20.     I've just recently seen a friend of mine's seriously expanded A2000
  21. machine (120MB HD, 11MB RAM, 68030 40MHz accelerator card, display enhancer etc)
  22. running WB2.04 - needless to say my jaw hit the floor. True Multi-Tasking is a
  23. joy to watch especially when you have 20 million applications open at once :^)

  25. I realise that that sort of a system is a wee bit out of my price range but I
  26. figure a A2000 could be acquired at a reasonable price, since Commodore have
  27. stop production of this model, and a HD with HD controller card are generally
  28. cheaper for the A2000 than for the A500. Then maybe in a year times or so,
  29. upgrade to an A3000 when their prices start to fall due to the advent of the
  30. much rumoured new Amiga's. A hard-disk is a must, as I am fed up with swapping
  31. disks all the time when I am using the WB - and when I start writing bigger
  32. programs I know a big HD will be indispensible.

  34.     The more I research though into the Amiga and its hardware add-ons the
  35. more I am confused. I am just wondering is the A2000 route I have mentioned
  36. above a good way to go - or will this model and others like it be outdated when
  37. these Super Amigas arrive around Christmas?

  39.     I have even contemplated getting a PC with the recent plummeting of
  40. prices in the IBM market (eg. a decent 486 40MB HD for just over a 1000 pounds 
  41. in England). I know all the die-hard Amiga fans are shuddering at the thought 
  42. of such a move :) At least the Amiga is still doing fairly well over here in
  43. Europe - from what I here in America if it ain't IBM compatible people don't
  44. want to know about it :(

  46.     So what I basically would like is some reassurance why I should
  47. stick with Commodore, and what would be the best upgrading route to take. Maybe
  48. some avid PC users could send me their reasons why I should jump ship. Or do
  49. I need to jump ship? (are these PC bridgeboards for the Amiga really IBM
  50. compatible?)
