- In article <1992Sep8.215108.26930@cs.ubc.ca> you write:
- >The 1084 on my A1000 is dying. I see several possibilities for
- >replacing it. I will most likely be getting an A3000 within a year.
- >If there is a monitor which will work for my A1000 and my A300o I
- >could purchase it now. Are there such monitors?
-
- In order to support all of the A3000s video modes, you need a
- monitor that can sync at 15.75kHz (NTSC/PAL) and at 31.5kHz (VGA)
- frequencies. You should look for a multisync whose sync specs
- include this range. The 15.75kHz rate is used by normal and
- interlaced video, which includes all video modes of your current
- A1000. The 31.5kHz rate is used by the de-interlaced video modes
- of flicker-fixers and the A3000 non-interlaced modes. The monitor
- should support Analog RGB over this range.
-
- >Are any of the
- >typical monitors for IBM type machines usable on the A1000/A3000?
-
- Unfortunately, no. CGA has the same sync frequency as the A1000
- but uses Digital RGB. VGA monitors have the same sync frequency
- as the A3000's new video modes, but won't work w/ the A1000.
-
- >An old monitor from a C64 for instance?
-
- For the A1000, you could use the composite video mode. However,
- there would be a significant loss of video quality.
-
- Hope this helps.
