- In response to those articles posted last week in this newsgroup
- concerning the use of static column mode ram in the Amiga 3000, I would
- like to mention the following:
-
- 1. Use those chips instead of page-mode RAM's. Running your A3000 in
- in burst mode will make it MUCH faster.
- 2. Use 4Mbit ZIPPS (code: 514402-I believe from Toshiba)
- They offer you 512K ram each, so you will be able to expand
- your Fast RAM with blocks of 4Megs, giving a total of 16MB fast ram.
- I usually order my chips in germany, where they cost between
- 30 and 33 DM (German Marks) each, which is about 1-3 DM more the Page
- Mode RAM.
- 3. At boot-up, the A3000 will always boot in PAGE-ram-mode.
- So, you should use the following command in your startup-sequence:
- cpu datacache databurst instrcache instrburst >nil:
- Use >nil: at the end if you execute it before executing IPrefs.
- SysInfo will give a speed increase of more than 2 Standard A500's!
