- When announcements about it first appeared on comp.arch, one of the
- DEC hardware engineers was offering to send a chip to anyone who
- sent him $3000. While he may have been joking, I've heard prices for
- upgrading some Vaxes to Alpha for less than $10,000.

- However, an Alpha based Amiga would leave a large gap in performance
- (and price) between the 680x0 range and the RISC range. Sparc is more
- plausible - Sun moved to it from 680x0, and have licensed it to appear
- in clones.
