- When you log out of a VAX it sends the final message, then drops the DTR
- signal to tell the modem to hang up. If the modem has some buffering
- in it, which most faster ones do, the message may still be in the buffer, and
- only partially sent, at the point where the DTR line drops, and the modem
- hardware releases the phone line (thus the NO CARRIER).

- Some modems may be programmable to delay the hangup for a short period after
- losing DTR, to avoid that, but you'd need to take it up with the admin
- staff at the BBS or University. There isn't anything you can do at your
- end.
