  11. Hi, I have several cassette tapes of interviews with family relatives 
  12. before they died.  Because I want these recordings to be available for
  13. the generations to come, I would like to avoid degradation in quality
  14. by digitizing them.  I would like to get your recommendations on how
  15. to do this.

  17. My equipment: A2000, 7Meg RAM, A2620 (68020), GVP Series II HD Controller,
  18.           2 SyQuest 40M drives.

  20. Can you recommend, either public-domain or commercial:
  21.     * digitizing hardware to use
  22.     * digitizing software
  23.     * play-back software
  24. I would like to be able to digitize an entire side (30 min) in one
  25. operation.  Will this require recording straight to disk, or is
  26. my 7Meg of RAM sufficient?
  27. The recordings are voice only, and fairly clear.  I want to preserve
  28. as much quality as possible, but know I will have to compromise with
  29. storage space.  What sampling rate would you recommend for voice?
  30. Do the standard compression tools work well with digitized sound?  
  31. I would think not, because of the even distribution of binary values.
  32. What compression tools are best?  Is there one that uses delta
  33. compression?
