- This is a fairly obscure bug fix but on the hopes that it may help
- someone else reading this someday, here it is:
-
- This has to do with the "page genie" in Gold Disk's Professional
- Page 3.0 used for printing on Avery dot matrix printer labels model #4241
- (3.5" floppy disk labels on continuous form perforated pinfeed stock,
- sold 250 to the package (I bought them at Comp U.S.A.)).
-
- The page genie creates the page template in the perfect size. It then
- puts one text box onto the page into which you can type text, import
- graphics, or both. However when printed, on SOME printers such as
- a DeskJet or Epson 9-pin printers (which I use), each label will
- print out 2 7/8ths inches high instead of 3 inches. What this means
- is that after a few labels, your artwork will run right off the
- top edge of the label and you'll have to stop printing and reset
- the position of the labels under the printhead.
-
- The solution is, after the page genie creates the page and puts
- the single box on it, use the text box button and ADD another
- empty text box below that single box, and this new empty box
- should start at the bottom of the genie-created box and end
- at the very bottom of the page. This text box will be exactly
- 1/8" high and the width isn't really important.
-
- Doing this will make multiple labels on this particular Avery
- stock print out perfectly, each one with your artwork aligned
- where it should be, from one label to the next, no matter how many
- you print.
- I got this info today from "Joe" on Gold Disk's tech help support
- line. They had actually heard about the problem before and had
- devised this simple workaround fix. Joe was friendly, intelligent,
- courteous, and they answered the phone in a couple rings. He
- solved the problem and phoned me back with the solution in less than
- 5 minutes.
-
- NOw that's what I call tech support. And the ease with which
- PPage 3.0 can do repetitive and common page and formatting setup
- tasks with these ARexx-driven "genies" is wonderful. I'm not sayin'
- this is the be-all end-all in DTP software.. far from it. It still
- has some bugs and it's still quirky at times and slow at others.
- But with the addition of the ARexx genies, and its excellent
- quality on my seven year old printer, I'm impressed.
