  14. While there is some net interest in the ISO 9000 standards, I wanted
  15. to point out that there will be a tutorial on ISO 9000 and software
  16. at the 2nd International Conference on Software Quality.  Following
  17. the tutorial will be a task force meeting to discuss the current
  18. state of ISO 9000 and where we are heading.  Here is the tutorial
  19. description.  Send mail to me if you would like more information.

  23. Track 2:  Applying ISO 9000 Standards to Software

  26. The adoption of ISO 9000 quality standards and accompanying
  27. certification is growing rapidly.  However, unless formalized
  28. quality management and certification are credible and appropriate
  29. to business needs, they may become a commercial tax on industry
  30. with little relevance to real quality.  The UK industry has taken
  31. the initiative and set up the TickIT certification scheme using
  32. international accepted documentation for quality management,
  33. auditing and certification. This tutorial covers the following
  34. topics: quality concepts, review of ISO 9000 standards with
  35. emphasis on ISO 9000-3 (guideline), the TickIT scheme, accreditation
  36. of registrars, how to select a registrar, and case study.

  38. John A. Slater is a principal consultant with Logica Defence and
  39. Civil Government Ltd and has been involved in project and quality
  40. management of information based systems for over twenty years.  He
  41. was instrumental in the development and implementation of many of
  42. the UK Ministry of Defence's software quality initiatives.  As
  43. TickIT Project Leader for the UK Department of Trade and Industry,
  44. he was charged with bringing to fruition accredited third party
  45. certification for quality management systems in the software sector.
