  14.          The Sixth International Symposium of
  15.               Robotics Research
  16.  
  17. The Sixth International Symposium of Robotics Research will be held
  18. near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, from October 2 to 5, 1993. The
  19. goal of the symposium is to bring together active, leading robotics
  20. researchers from academia, government, and industry, to define the
  21. state of the art of robotics and its future direction.

  23. The symposium will be held in an informal setting with a limited
  24. number of participants in order to maximize interaction.  During the
  25. four-day symposium, approximately fifty papers will be presented, in a
  26. single track, to cover the broad research area of robotics; some
  27. papers will be presented in sessions focused on specific research
  28. areas, others will be presented in a panel format to facilitate group
  29. discussion.

  31. Papers representing authoritative reviews of established research
  32. areas as well as papers reporting on new areas are sought for
  33. presentation at the symposium.  A number of leading researchers will
  34. be asked to submit an extended abstract outlining a paper representing
  35. their area of research to be presented at the symposium.  Researchers
  36. who feel that they have made a significant new contribution to
  37. robotics are invited to submit an abstract.  All abstracts will be
  38. reviewed by the symposium Program Committee before final acceptance.
  39. Extended abstracts are due by February 1, 1993, to either Program
  40. Chairman.  Decisions of acceptance will be made by April 1, 1993, and
  41. the final papers are due by September 1, 1993.

  43. The proceedings of the symposium will be published as a book, with
  44. introductions to each section written by senior members of the
  45. robotics research community.  Attendance at the symposium is limited
  46. to the presenters and to invited participants.
