I'm new to this group, but I understand that some discussion about Heathkit robots goes on. Please don't flame me if the questions I ask have already been answered or if the questions seem naive - I'm just getting started on this project.
Anyways... Our robotics project group has a Heathkit robot. What we are trying to do is program the path of the robot using an AutoLisp program in AutoCAD. What we think we'd like to do is send the path to an interpreter and transform it into a formal robotics language. We'd then like to convert that for use by the Heathkit. We'd like to download instructions to the Heathkit in the form of machine language and the robotics instruction set.
However, we don't have the serial interface board or any of the instructions for it, other than a schematic. One possibility we'd like to consider is mounting a PC board on to the Heathkit on a platform and possibly downloading the instructions in real time. Another is to download all the instructions at once, in which case we would not mount a PC on the robot.
We'd also like to mount at least one additional ultrasonic sensor on the robot to assist in guidance.
If anyone can help us with any of these problems, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Especially any help with info on using the Serial interface to the robot.
