  15. I have been running xntp for almost 2 years on our Convex and Dec machines.
  16. Today I obtained xntp3 and compiled and installed on our Convex (set up as
  17. a local time server even though it doesn't actually have a real clock).
  18. Unfortunately all other machines, still running the 2 year old xntp
  19. now can't talk to the new xntp3 time server.

  21. I used the same /etc/ntp.conf file [maybe that is part of my problem].  xntp3
  22. started up just fine and xntpdc[3] ran ok with the local machine.  In xntpdc
  23. if I set host to an old xntp machine, I got a:
  24.     localhost: timed out, nothing received
  25.     ***Request timed out
  26. So both xntp3 can't talk to old xntp machines and old xntp machines can't talk
  27. to xntp3.

  29. Any suggestions/ideas?  I can't see anything in the doc/man pages which talks
  30. about potential problems.
