- Hi all,
- I am new to this list but I would like to jump right
- into the discussion about the pktmux.
- I received a beta copy 1.2 from the author to test because
- I noticed quite some problems with version 1.1 and winqvt.
- I have the following comments (& questions)
- The mux seem to behave OK if one sticks to DOS and
- running only 'normal' telnet or ftp sessions. However
- the ncsa telbin rev 2.3b05 is not releasing the pktdrv
- properly so that it is always busy even if yr back to DOS.
- Sending a pktdrv /r (=reset) is not always able to reset
- the pktdrv. Especially if the pktdrv is not the first one
- in the row ie if a 'lower' int pktdrv is free then pktdrv
- will always find the 'first' free one and not the busy one.
- Chaining up seems to be poor ?!
- If one runs pktmux with windows 3.1 the prog winqvt/net runs
- OK but any other app (ncsa telbin; ftp ;etc) seem to suffer
- very hard. It is almost impossible to pinpoint the problem.
- Sometimes they run very, very slowly (ie one move every 5 min or so)
- sometimes they lock up the system. You get less problems when
- you run the apps 'full screen' than when you run them 'windowed'
- It seems that the mux is not coping very well with the 386enh
- mode of win 3.1 and the virtual machine environment.
- More info would be welcome.
- A further question is : has anyone of you an idea if it is
- possible to combine the 'winpkt' shim together with the packet
- driver in an attempt to patch this 386enh problem ?
- Is there more info around about this 'winpkt' ? (Hello ? J Doupnik?
- R Nelson ?)
- Could any one mail me a possible pktmux setup that combines a working
- winqvt/net & ncsa telnet ?
- I made some batch file to find out which soft int a pktdrv is locking
- when loaded through a batch file (under win3.1 & a pif file) that
- runs a DOS app. This in order to be able to release & reset & unload
- the specific pktdrv (pktdrv XX /r or /u). If run under win3.1 it loads
- all right but sometimes the application flags that it cannot find
- the packte driver, and when trying to quit & release the pktdrv I
- always get the message that the pktdrv int I generated is not in my
- current DOS session and that I have to release it with a 'pktdrv /rr
- or /uu' switch. This makes me think the virtual DOS machines are not
- handled the correct way although the doc on pktmux says it does.
- When loading different windowed telnet sessions one sees int 63
- allocated in every session and no session is able to deallocate it ???
- Is it using the base page int's after all ?
- If anyone is interested in the batch file I'll post it.
- Sorry for this rather long chapter.
- Have a day !
