- I'm hoping someone can give me a rundown on what is involved to get a 386
- running Windows 3.1 and Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1 to talk to a Sun (I
- believe) via a SLIP connection. We have a LAN Manager network set up
- using 3Com Etherlink II boards (3C503), and goal is to gain FTP, telnet,
- mail and news services, preferably with a Windows user interface.
-
- Judging from the questions and answers I've read in the last several
- hundred posts here, I think this is the right place to ask. If someone
- could give me first a _general_ idea of whether or not this can be done,
- that would be most valuable right now. I would prefer to stick to
- commercial software in the long run, but on the other hand, I would like
- to implement a basic SLIP connection first (without LAN Manager and Windows)
- as a first step. Is there free software that does this on a 386 that is
- _not_ running UNIX? Should I get UNIX?
-
- Please copy me via e-mail if you respond to the newsgroup.
-
- Thanks,
-
- Eric
