  17. CMIP (CMOT on IP) is well described in the appropriate ISO documents and RFCs which
  18. can be found on the NIC (anonymous FTP to nic.ddn.mil).  Although it may be considered
  19. a "beefed up" variation of SNMP, it has not been widly implemented, and has in fact
  20. been denounced by Internet-ers as trying to accomplish too much.

  22. My recommendation is to look more thuroughly at SMP (Marshall Rose's and Jeff Case's
  23. upgrade to SNMP) which solves a lot of SNMP's problems, like bulk data transfers and
  24. security issues.  It still uses ASN.1 (yuk!), as do CMOT and CMIP.
