The latest version of SNMP is 1.1b, which is very stable in spite of the beta label. The is a new distribution of SMP, which is sometimes referred to as SNMP II. I have no experience with it.
The SNMP 1.1b distribution is stable, but has no support for MIB-II extensions, so its utility is rapidly decreasing. A great pity, as it has some very useful tools.
