- There is also an end-user orientated User Guide for X.400 -> RFC822 (Internet)
- addressing. Parts of the guide also double up for RFC822 -> X.400. Hopefully
- the guide is more readable for users than RFC1327 although RFC1327 is the
- bible......the guide is in English & French for the moment. German on the way.
- Details on how to get an electronic copy from the COSINE MHS server follow:

-
- This directory holds end user orientated user guides. Included are user guides
- in english and other languages that the project team and other contributors
- have generated. This information should be made as widely available to end
- users as possible.
-
- The addressing-<language>-<version> files details follow:
- - the english version is the original and is generated by the project team
- - the french version is translated courtesy of the French MHS Service ie. RED
- and in particular by Odile Germes. Many thanks.

- To receive particular documents, send the message:
- send public/user-guides <document1> <document2>..

- Send this message to:

- Some more details on address conversion services follow. Please note that
- the French, German & Dutch services are in the native language and NOT
- in English. The Swiss & UK services are in English....

- **Conversion Services*
- ---------------------
-
- The following countries have interactive address conversion services:
-
- Germany
- The Netherlands
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
-
- In the following countries there is an e-mail responder which does
- address conversion:
-
- France
- Germany
-
- To access the German conversion service, via terminals use one of the
- following addresses:
- Internet (telnet): sirius.dfn.de
- IP (telnet): 192.76.176.5
- Public X.25 (pad): 26245050335006
- Log in to the account named 'adressen', no password, only CR. You'll get
- the prompting of the conversion program with help information.
-
- To access the German conversion service via e-mail, send a message
- containing the address(es) to be converted in the body to
- C=DE; ADMD=DBP; PRMD=dfn; S=adrserv; OR adrserv@dfn.dbp.de
- Please write one address per line into the body part of the message. You
- will receive a reply containing the converted address(es).
-
- To access the French conversion service, send a message containing the
- address to be converted in the body to
- C=FR; ADMD=atlas; PRMD=cicb; S=is; OR is@cicb.fr
- You will receive a reply containing the converted address.
-
- To access the Dutch conversion service, via terminals use one of the
- following addresses (No login is required):
- Internet (telnet): relay.surfnet.nl 4545
- IP (telnet): 130.161.180.100 4545
- Public X.25 (pad): 20412911004545
-
- To access the Swiss conversion service, use one of the following
- addresses:
- Internet(telnet): nic.switch.ch
- Public X.25(pad): 22847971014540
- IXI(pad): 20432840100540
- Log in to the account named 'mailaddr'. Then enter the address you would
- like converted.
-
- To access the British conversion service, ORAC, use one of the following
- addresses:
- JANET(pad): 00004001025003
- Public X.25(pad): 23421920014813
- IXI(pad): 20433450400213
- No login is required. The service converts between grey-book (JANET) mail
- or RFC-822 mail,and X.400 addresses, and vice-versa. Calls from JANET
- will automatically assume 'uk...' ordering, whilst calls from IXI/public
- X.25 will assume '...uk' ordering.

- Same comment....the user guides mentioned above work well (best) for
- coutries with mapping rules (Standard Atributes or Domain Defined Atributes)
- AND gateways that actually use them. However it isn't as bad as is implied as
- most (nearly all??) gateways operated by non-commercial parts of the Internet
- use RFC1327 and the tables.
