- There is a bug in the LocalTalk implementation in the Quadra
- ROM's that leads to flakey network behaviour with some devices
- devices. (Farallon Star Controllers, LaserWriter IINT, some other
- networked printers, etc.)
-
- Solutions include:
-
- 1) Wait for the next release of System 7.
-
- 2) Use the Network Software Installer (available from ftp.apple.com)
- to install updated LocalTalk drivers.

- The NSI 1.2.1 installer can be found in the directory:
- /dts/mac/sys.soft/netcomm/net-soft-install-1-2-1-imag.hqx
-
- Warning: If you use MacTCP and you use it over LocalTalk there is a
- problem with MacTCP 1.1 that may cause you difficulty. After using
- the NSI 1.2.1 installer, the MacTCP control panel will no longer show
- LocalTalk as one of the connection choices. If you had already
- configured MacTCP for LocalTalk, then run the NSI 1.2.1
- installer, there is no problem; MacTCP will continue using
- LocalTalk. However you won't be able to configure MacTCP
- for LocalTalk after installing NSI 1.2.1.
-
- (A workaround is to configure MacTCP on some other machine and
- then then move the configured MacTCP to the Quadra.)
