- #INFORMATION CONCERNING Multisessions by Network Dynamics Corp
-
- #I've been testing the product Multisessions versions 2.1.09 and
- #2.0.15. I've experienced a fatal bug check while running both
- #versions.
- #I am running Multisessions on a VAX 6000-440 VMS version 5.4-3.
-
- #Has anyone else had problems with Multiesssions?? What has been
- #your experience with Network Dynamics??
-
- #If you have used Multisessions, how long have you used it??
-
- We've been running multisessions for about 2-3 years, here. No
- problems until we hit VMS 5.5. Then it would crash the system, but
- I forgot what the error condition was. This was on microVAXes up through
- VAX 8700's. We got a shipment in friday that included version 2.1.xx.
- I'm not at the office and forgot the exact value of xx, but it was in
- above 10. We skipped from VMS 5.4 straight to VMS 5.5 - didn't receive
- any of the -1, -2, or -3 releases and had a few groups that wanted
- posix. The only problem we've had with networks dynamics corp is there
- unfriendly protection measures - you have to be logged in and run their
- utility program to insert the security password and contact them at the same
- time. Not real easy in a classified environment without handy phones near
- all the systems. On top of that, it expires every year on about 10
- systems and for a while, they would only give passwords only valid for a
- month or two since they were expecting a new release, 'soon'. Supposedly,
- NDC's new president put an end to that policy.
-
- #Are there products like Multisessions that are better??
-
- When we evaluated multisessions, there were about two other vendors
- (clyde digital's is the only one I remember) with similar products.
- Multisessions was far and away the best of them - the others would
- periodically crash or hang either your terminal session or the whole
- system. There's also a couple of public domain programs - however,
- being in a mostly classified environment, we can't run them. BOSS,
- I think is the name of one of them (check the info-vax monthly file
- lists for the other names and locations). Good luck.
