  12.  I feel this should be obvious, but I cannot find it.
  13.  We have a need to arrange for single user access to a file. Multiple
  14. copies of the file can be arranged. We wish to check whether someone has
  15. file1.dat open; if so let's try file2.dat etc until we find an available
  16. copy.
  17.  I've seen a function that determines whether a file is open by another
  18. user, but now I can't locate it. May be in th manual, but I can't find
  19. it.
  20.  Suggestions welcome. I will summarize if it seems useful.
