  13. We have a large number of OS/2 machines that all must be configured
  14. to run TCP/IP (we keep source code on a Sun file server).  Up until
  15. now everyone either manually installed and updated their CONFIG.SYS
  16. files or used a special program someone wrote to do this.

  18. Now, there appears to be a version of LAPS that can install onto any
  19. drive (i.e. not just C:) and we would like to start using it to do
  20. these installs.  However, we can not find a way to get LAPS to use
  21. the .NIF file provided with TCP/IP.  We also have the same problem
  22. with some of the 3-Com boards and drivers; how to get LAPS to use
  23. their .NIF files?

  25. Furthermore, LAPS seems very unforgiving about running it more than
  26. once.  Even after restoring the old CONFIG.SYS and removing every
  27. file we could find related to the network protocols and drivers that
  28. LAPS knows about, we get an error from LAPS on its second invocation
  29. that there are "locked files".  Of course, it does not tell us which
  30. files these are!

  32. One of the guys here tried putting these .NIF's into the ZIP'ed
  33. file on the LAPS diskette, hoping that we could get it to install
  34. TCP and these other MAC drivers, but until we find the "locked files"
  35. or reformat the disk we can't try this out.

  37. This whole scheme (LAPS as related to installing various protocols
  38. and drivers) seems half-baked.  There must be some missing pieces.

  40. Anybody (esp. from IBM) know the real scoop?
