-
- He has at least two options.
-
- One is to keep on using what he is using. In principle it should
- still work in a DOS session under OS/2 2.0 (perhaps a specific DOS
- session). Create a program object which starts up that DOS session,
- then drag a shadow of it to the Startup folder. Of course, that
- doesn't really help take advantage of any OS/2 2.0 special features.
-
- The second option might involve a bit of cash, but it is going to be
- an absolutely terrific solution. IBM now offers a product called
- Screen Reader/PM for OS/2 2.0. This dandy product allows a vision
- impaired user to operate OS/2 2.0, INCLUDING the Workplace Shell. As
- the user moves the mouse, audible clues are given (e.g. "Shredder" if
- the mouse pointer is moved over the Shredder). The downside is that
- this software is a bit pricey (at about $700 retail), but I understand
- there are substantial discounts available (educational pricing, for
- example).
-
- If your friend wants to be able to run GUI programs (like all his
- friends, no doubt), Screen Reader/PM is certainly worth investigating.
