- CSD stands for Corrective Service Diskettes. In general, a CSD
- contains IBM improvements and enhancements to an existing IBM
- product. When the CSD is applied, the result is the equivalent
- to a Refresh Level (after the OS/2 2.0 CSD arrives, new OS/2 2.0
- packages will be released with this new Refresh Level automatically;
- no CSD is needed for these new packages). Currently, IBM has made
- patches available until the OS/2 2.0 CSD arrives.
-
- To be more specific, IBM announced that the CSD for OS/2 2.0
- will arrive this fall. My calendar says that fall starts
- on September 22, and ends on December 20. In addition to
- containing patches for OS/2 2.0, this CSD should also have
- a 32-bit graphics engine, 32-bit device drivers, support for
- Windows 3.1 apps, and more SVGA (800x600) and XVGA (1024x768)
- driver support (which may be related to the 32-bit device
- driver support), and maybe some other stuff.
-
- I have not heard IBM announcing the cost of the CSD, but
- rumors say that it will either be free (if you download)
- or be available for just the media charges (if you go to
- an IBM dealer and request the CSD on diskettes).
