  18. 1. Create (or select) the directory in which you want the font files to
  19.    appear.  It must be available whenever Windows is running.

  21. 2. Copy into this directory the TrueType font files you want to evict
  22.    from the Windows directory.  (Note: this means the *.TTF files only.
  23.    Don't copy the *.FOT files.)

  25. 3. From the Windows MAIN -> CONTROL PANEL -> FONTS dialog, remove the fonts
  26.    you wish to evict.  Remember to check the box which asks if you want to
  27.    erase the files from your system.  This will remove both the .TTF and
  28.    .FOT files from WINDOWS\SYSTEM.

  30. 4. From the same dialog box, click the ADD... button to open the Font Add
  31.    dialog box.  Specify the directory you copied the .TTF files to in
  32.    step 1; the dialog will list all the available fonts in that directory.
  33.    Select the desired fonts (or click SELECT ALL) and *uncheck* the box
  34.    which asks if the installer should copy the font files to the Windows
  35.    directory.  Click OK.

  37. This will still leave one (relatively small) .FOT file in your Windows
  38. directory for each TrueType font, but will keep the huge .TTF font files
  39. away.
