- I just upgraded to a Diamond Speedstar 24X video card and thought I'd
- share a few things I've noticed...
-
- My system: 386-33 clone with Mitsubishi FL6615K 16" Monitor. The monitor
- can do up to 1280x1024 Non-interlaced at 60Hz.
-
- The card has 1Meg DRAM on board and a Western Digital GUI accelerator.
- Up to 24-bit color at 640x480, up to 15-bit color at 800x600, 8-bit color
- at 1027x768.
-
- 1. The card can do 1027x768 at 72Hz non-interlaced which is very nice
- compared to my old Orchid ProII at 60Hz. 1280x1024 is possible with
- this card, but only 16 colors and only interlaced.
-
- I think I got the Diamond Speedstar 24 (not X), I'm not sure. I have a 15"
- MAG monitor. According to all the driver, vmode, win3.1 stuff I got, you
- are right, it only does 1280x1024 in interlaced mode.
-
- However, I am also an NT developer and I was a little frustrated with the
- limited # of display drivers that came with NT (i.e. technically, my
- Speedstar 24 should only work as a VGA at 640x480). So, I tried using
- some of the display drivers that came with NT for other boards (I think
- I ended up using some for the ET4000). Now, under NT, I see 1280x1024
- NON-INTERLACED at at least 60Hz, I think higher. The weirdest thing is
- I'm using an NT driver for the ET4000 that is supposed to be at 1024x768.
-
- Anyway, my point is that I think maybe these Speedstar 24-s can really
- do 1280x1024 non-interlaced high-freq. Just nobody has written the proper
- driver yet.
-
- I did have one problem though. I have to play with the monitor whenever
- I move between NT and Win3.1 now because the 1280x1024 NT mode has
- different sync or something. I also loose about 16 pixels on both sides
- of my display and there are bright vertical lines on both sides as if
- the gun can't move the whole 1280 and is putting 16 pixels on top of
- each other on both sides of my display. I like 1280x1024 better than
- the 1024x768. I have to play with the back controls of my MAG monitor
- some more to see if I can get rid of the 16 pixel/bright line problems.
- I've exaused all the combinations on the front panel.
