- I tried to start Windows 3.1 the other day with the shareware coprocessor
- emulator FRANKE.387 installed as a device, but the computer locked up after
- the Program Manager started. I also downloaded a couple of different,
- older emulators, but each caused exactly the same effect. When I tried to load
- the ones that can be started from DOS under a Windows DOS-shell, I got an
- "Invalid Memory Protection Fault." I've been playing around with the
- SYSTEM.INI & WIN.INI files, but I haven't gotten anywhere. Incidently,
- I've had absolutely no other problems with FRANKE.387. Programs that wouldn't
- otherwise run at all, run fine; those that run slow without it, run faster.
-
- My system is a 386DX@16MHz, 4 megs XMS ram (2 on a BocaRam SIMM card),
- no other TSRs except for HIMEM & BOOT.SYS (which otherwise doesn't cause
- any problems), SCSI drive controller, Unisys mouse (MS clone), Soundblaster,
- modem, game port, SVGA. (No 80387 chip, of course...)
-
- I haven't seen any documentation from MS about these emulators, so I'm
- wondering if anyone else has had problems, or if anyone has gotten
- Windows to run with a coprocessor emulator. E-mail replies/suggestions
- appreciated!
