- Hmm. I believe that this memory parity syndrome is _not_ hardware-
- related (as a bad SIMM), because I've experienced it, and replacing the
- SIMMs for a few times didn't help. Then the errors suddenly went away
- by themselves, while I had the _original_ SIMMs installed. _And_ no
- other software complained about my memory. _And_ I most definitely ran
- every single most thorough test program available to me to each set of
- SIMMs I used - and according to them all the SIMMs were 100% OK.
-
- OTOH, I do agree with you about the Win 3.0 note. Then again, I wonder
- whether the makers of Windows actually use the hardware in some non-
- standard way, 'cause Windows seems to be the #1 error detector in the
- market today - it crashes on errors that _no_ other piece of software
- can find!
-
- And on a side note, I happened to run SDIR on my /win/system dir. Quess
- what? WIN386.EXE, compression ratio 2.2:1. Talk about slack. >250 Kb of
- waste. It does the job, and relatively well IMHO, but still I'd say that
- _some_ optimization wouldn't be bad! (In general, the /win/system subdir
- has the highest compression ratio on my disk - e.g., the _most_ slack
- files.)
-
- Oh well, just my 0,80 FIM worth...
