- We are currently using DOS 5.0 on a 286 compatible for our office work.
- We are just about to upgrade the 286 to a 486DX-50MHz and also buy a
- brand spanking new 486DX-50. The 286 is connected to our AppleTalk
- network using Farallon's PhoneNet card and their PhoneNet Talk software.
- I called them to see what changes would need to be made to use our
- new machines and windows. They said that their card would not work in
- a machine running at 33 MHz or higher. They said that we would have to
- buy a Dayna DL2000 card, but that we could still use the PhoneNet Talk
- software with windows. I called my computer support group in Texas and
- they laughed at me. They said that they had been having no problems
- running the card on 486-33's and that I should just stop worrying. Well,
- I just can't beleive that Farallon would refer me to another company
- for no good reason. Can anyone tell me what the truth is? Will our
- PhoneNet card work on a 50MHz 486? I assume the PhoneNet Talk software
- will work fine with Windows as there are drivers included, but any
- advice on how to make this setup work would be appreciated. Thanks in
- advance!
