- A friend of mine was using Windows 3.1 File Manager. He had some files
- which in his WINDOWS directory which he was deleting (they were extranious
- files created by Borland C++ which doesn't direct files to the directory where
- the original c/c++ code is located without changing the settings to correct
- directory.) All of a sudden he got memory errors and FM shut down then nothing
- on the desktop would open. So he reboots. Windows won't restart. OK he must
- of deleted some important files you're saying. Well, he runs both Norton
- Undelete and PC tools Undelete and there is no windows directory or any files.
- The Windows directory had been completely wiped. No sign that any files had
- ever been there.
-
- The approximate actions which caused this to happen were:
- 1) In file manager SEARCH for *.exe to find the file to delete
- 2) In a seperate window the *.exe's came up.
- 3) Minimized that window.
- 4) Went into the WINDOWS directory.
- 5) Selected and deleted a single file.
- 6) Pandamonium, Panic and Dispair.
-
- Has anyone else had something similar to this happen. I didn't know
- there was a wipe for FM, and if there is there should certainly be some kind of
- warning.... HEY IDIOT YOU'RE TRYING TO WIPE THE HARD DRIVE or something.
-
- Thanks in advance.
