- Instead of whining about bugs in Corel 3.0, let's work constructively
- and document extant bugs and anomalies and share the results with the
- user community.
-
- I found that Corel 3.0B does not like to deal with large amounts of
- imported text in small point sizes. (I much prefer to deal with
- text intensive chores in a DTP program anyway--after all, Corel is
- a *draw* package that can handle small amounts of body copy, albeit
- not very quickly.)
-
- There is a fix on Compu$erve for hard disk Corel users:
-
- CDRFONT.DLL 100160 08/24/92
-
- This file may be used with CorelDRAW! 3.0 rev B only.
-
- Installation:
-
- In the DRAW subdirectory, rename the existing CDRFONT.DLL
- to be CDRFONT.ORG. Copy the new CDRFONT.DLL (check the date
- and size as noted above) into the DRAW subdirectory and
- restart CorelDRAW!.
-
- Changes:
-
- 1- Divide By Zero errors, caused by attempts to rasterize
- very small text entries for use in the image header, are
- eliminated.
-
- 2- Incorrect font-mapping, caused by the use of the space
- character as a delimiter, should not occur. Font names, in
- the [CorelDrw20FontMap], may contain spaces. The calibration
- values, however, MUST all be present, and MUST be separated
- by commas.
-
-
-
- Of course, this doesn't help CD-ROM users. I ran some experiments
- and found that Corel will crash out with a "divide by zero or overflow
- error" when you try to import text over Corel's 4K limit. If importing
- text, import small quantities (under the 4K limit) and put them in
- separate blocks. Better still, enter text in directly or bring it
- in using DDE via the clipboard.
-
- To prevent losing your work in the case of crashes, change the
- AutoBackupMins= command from 10 to 1 or 3 or whatever you're comfortable
- with. (This command is in the COREL.INI file in the Corel directory on
- your hard disk--it is there even if you run from CD-ROM) If it does
- bomb out and you don't have a recent back up, all is not lost. It saves
- the file in @@@CDRW.TMP. Just rename it to a ____.CDR file (back it up
- first), continue editing and delete body text and try saving again.
- Make sure you export your body text if you don't have another copy.
-
- Hopefully Corel will have a maintenance release for CD-ROM users soon.
- (But not too soon. I want a new CD that fixes all of the bugs found
- by users, not just a few!!)
