- Hi, all... I have a few questions, generally related (except one) to
- each other... The pleasure of an answer via e-mail would be appreciated...
-
- Configuration: 486DX-33 w/ 8MB RAM, MS-WIN 3.1, DOS 5.0
- COM1: Zoom v.32bis internal modem (w/ built in UART 16550AF)
- COM2: Logitech mouse device
- COM3: Generally vacamt, reset to I5
- COM4: non-existent
- LPT1: IRQ7
- SoundBlaster Pro w/ CD: IRQ10, Adr. 240, DMA 1
- (Windows multimedia extension properly installed)
-
- QUESTION 1:
- Occasionally there is a data loss while using Procomm Plus for Windows
- at high modem speeds. This does NOT occur in DOS. I noticed that the
- Windows setting for COM1 goes up to 19200 bps, but the maximum throughput
- should make that 57600. Any way I can increase the speed beyond WIN's
- settings?
-
- QUESTION 2 (probably related to 1):
- When I run a UART search outside of windows, my modem is identified as
- having a 16550AF UART (a perfectly accurate statement); however, when I
- run the same search in a DOS window of WIN 3.1, the UART comes up as
- an 8250. Can I fix this and might this have anything to do with the
- first problem listed?
-
- QUESTION 3:
- I also use UWWIN (Unix Windows for WIN 3.x) and would like to be able
- to switch between PCPLUS-WIN and UW without disconnecting the modem;
- however, Windows will only allow one program to use a serial port at a
- time and any attempt to override this precaution generally results in
- my modem getting disconnected; any ideas?
-
- QUESTION 4 (and final):
- Occassionally, while using Windows (and this happens in no other
- environment) a massive blast of static pours through my SoundBlaster
- speakers. During this, Windows continues to work fine and any sound
- output to the SoundBlaster is audible behind the static. Once it
- begins, the only way to clear it has been to reboot the machine (but
- not necessarily power-off). Is this avoidable?
-
- Thanks for the advance help... Post if you'd like, but please e-mail
- all responses to me - news often takes too long to work the net!
