- Subject: Extended Memory Error -- Help!!

- I grabbed the following message with SNIPPER from a cold boot of my '286:
-
- ===================[ Cut Here ]=================
-
- HIMEM: DOS XMS Driver, Version 2.60 - 04/05/90
- XMS Specification Version 2.0
- Copyright 1988-1990 Microsoft Corp.
-
- Installed A20 handler number 1.
- I/O card parity interrupt at 026F:0342.
- Type (S)hut off NMI, (R)eboot, other keys to continue
-
- ===================[ Cut Here ]=================
-
- If I hit [spacebar] everything seems to work just fine...It seems as if
- I'm even allowed to use all 2 meg of my XMS (1648k available after a
- ramdrive to hold command.com and a 384k SmartDrv disk cache).
-
- I know a parity error is a problem with the chips. We replaced the banks
- though, and it works fine when I have the board configured as Expanded
- (EMS) memory. When I configure it as Extended (XMS) memory though, I
- get the above error. What's wrong? Is it something with the board,
- the chips, or just himem?
-
- I don't particularly care about the error -- I still can use the memory
- as far as I can tell -- but it's annoying that I have to hit a key to
- get the computer to boot completely! :-(
