  14. today i repartitioned and reformatted my hard drive.  no problem.  i
  15. restored the backup that i had done minutes before.  no problem.  then i
  16. tried to reboot off the hard disk.  problem.

  18. i have a copy of msdos 5.0 in the /dos directory.  i have, in c:\,
  19. command.com, io.sys (sys hid), msdos.sys (sys hid), and wina20.386 (sys r-o)
  20. and i have command.com in \dos (this is what command.com points to.)
  21. is it necessary to re-install dos 5.0, or can i somehow 'remind' the
  22. hard drive that it is bootable.

  24. fdisk reports status code of 'a' on the hard drive's msdos partition.
  25.  
  26. the problem with re-installing dos is that i need spare blank disks, and
  27. i just don't have any to spare right now (bad idea, i know).
  28. any advice/suggestions/answers/flames?
