- I'm running Stacker 2.01 (software only) on a 386 25MHz 4Meg machine.
- I'm getting a reported 1.8:1 compression ratio. Of course, there's some
- wasted space due to cluster sizes. The Stacker manual says you should use
- 8K clusters unless you have lots of small files (I don't know what lots
- means). STAC says that performance will suffer using 4K clusters. The
- question is: Does anyone know by how much performance will suffer, and
- how much extra space do you get by going to 4K clusters? I know that every
- answer will be dependant on the particular system and mix of files, but
- if anyone has done a comparison, I'd like to know before I try it
- myself. Of course even with an extra ??Meg, it will fill up quickly. I
- think the old adage "Work expands to fill the time" applies equally to
- disk space. Thanks in advance.
