- If you any remember the last time I wrote
- about this, I was whinning about how long it took for
- me to compile the kernel.
-
- Set up: (old)
- 386sx-20
- SVGA (Paradise/Wester Digital)
- 2 megs
- 80 meg HD (40 for linux)
-
- It took a HUGH 5 hrs and 20 mins to compile. Well, I
- told all that the only solution at this point is get more
- memory. Guess what? :) I bought 4 more megs for a total
- of 6 megs (yes, a weird system. It even self-configured..?)
-
- So, the new results are: (using same kernel after a clean)
- 0 hrs and 37 mins!!!!
-
- What does this mean? BUY MEMORY!!! Now, I would think that
- anyone over 4 megs would not really be hurting (unless you
- are trying X :) Now, that is no longer a problem, I am
- going to tackle X. What is the lowest res (paradise) can X
- go? I have a standard VGA monitor that can't handle 800x600x256. :(
-
- Thanks,
